The reign of the Roman Republic/Empire constituted a dark age for European civilization; were it not for the Roman occupations, the European continent would have been much more prosperous. In spite of this, many people continue to glamorize that lamentable Soviet Union of antiquity and see it preferable to the feudal era. This glamorization unironically constitutes as a foundation for right-wing socialism: by praising the thuggish Roman regime, right-wingers effectively praise central planning.
