Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, or UARS is a form of Sleep Disordered Breathing characterized by narrowing of the upper airway which during sleep excessive respiratory effort is necessary to breathe. The primary symptoms include unrefreshing sleep, brain fog, fatigue, sleepiness, and chronic insomnia. Though many sleep studies do not differentiate between UARS and OSA, it is typically diagnosed via polysomnogram (PSG), and sometimes PES (esophageal pressure) which can detect abnormal pressure.
