A community devoted to Psilocybe mexicana, known as pajaritos (“little bird”), a species held in high regard by the Mazatec and other Indigenous groups in Mexico, being the most cherished species of Mazatec shaman Maria Sabina. The Mazatec say of this species ‘que suave’ (‘how smooth’). The Zapotec give this mushroom to their children as they view it as the friendliest and most forgiving.
